Better Stations

New Platform 4, Filton Abbey Wood Station

FoSBR lobby for improvements to all stations in the West of England area and endeavour to support station Friends groups, councillors and local individuals in their efforts to improve facilities and services at their local station.

Many local stations have active Friends groups. If you would like to get involved, you can find details of our allies, supporters and community rail partnerships on our ‘Get Involved‘ pages.

Alternatively, send FoSBR a message via our contact page and we will endeavour to point you in the right direction. Small changes can often be effected by passing on information to the correct contact at GWR, Network Rail or Severnside Community Rail Partnership.

However, the cost of implementing major station improvements is often surprising and requires the involvement of one of the major stakeholders to access a funding stream such as:

  • GWR Customer and Communities Improvement Fund,
  • Bristol City Council Community Infrastructure Levy and
  • Department for Transport Access for All grant allocations and
  • Severnside Community Rail Partnership schemes.

Severnside Community Rail Partnership also run community engagement projects with Friends groups, station adopters and groups such as Incredible Edible Bristol where, on the first Friday of each month a working party travel the Severn Beach Line by train to manage station planters.
